My name is Ryan Black, and I am a Junior at Montour High School. I have been swimming competitively for 8 years and I am hoping to continue swimming throughout college. Academics are always something that I like to put first and foremost when choosing a college, but if I would be able to swim while I am learning about my dream job, that would be a great combo. I would like to go into college for computer engineering.
I like to sit and watch my film back on my swims to see where I can improve each race. I work very hard during practice to try and change these weak areas where I know I can improve on. During high school, I have practices Monday through Saturday for 2.5 hours each day (3 hours on Saturday). We do around 7,000 yards each practice with a mix of sprints, distance, IM work, and drills.
After each swim, I go to my coach and see if she thinks that I could improve on some things that she saw throughout the race. I keep those things in mind when I go back into the water for practice. I always give 110% when I am swimming an event, and my favorite thing is seeing those times dropping each time I swim.
