My name is Devin Dothard. I am 16 years old and in the 11th grade.
I started swimming when I was 7 years old for a summer league team and I haven't stopped yet, continuing to swim during high school and summer seasons. I also play soccer, and have competed for both sports at a variety level at the same time, while maintaining A honor roll, taking several honors classes and working part time.
My main focus area for swimming is freestyle, but I can and will swim whatever event I am put in. I qualified for the 2022 spring KISL championship meet in 50 free, 100 free, 100 back, 200 free, 200 IM and 100 breast and am very close to making state cuts in my 50 freestyle.
I was just able to start training year round in August of 2021. The closest indoor training pool/team is over an hour from my high school. The practice times and my parents work schedule did not allow us enough time to get to practice until I was able to start driving myself. I feel I will be able to continue the great strides I started this year to a greater degree in college when I have access to practice even more than the hour long practices I attend three times a week now.
What makes me a great athlete is the fact that I am willing to work hard and I am good at taking corrections with a positive attitude. I do not quit and I encourage my teammates to be the best they can be as well. I believe sportsmanship and success go hand in hand.
