Personal Statement

Beginning at the age of nine years old, I have loved the sport of swimming.  Since that time, I can honestly say that swimming has helped me mature into the young man I am currently.  It is my aspiration and goal to swim in college. During my collegiate years, I plan to continue my work ethic leading to faster times with the hopes of ultimately receiving the opportunity to participate in the Olympics.  Also, I want to successfully complete academic courses which will pave a path for me to become a family court judge. Because of my interpersonal nature and my intrinsic need to assist others in flourishing, a career as a judge has been at the forefront of my pursuits for quite some time.

As I currently workout with my club swim team and my high school varsity swim team, I work closely with my coaches to focus on and improve my technique and skill set.  Although high school and life produces various demands and pressures, I pride myself in having the discipline to stay focused on my swimming pursuits during practice and/or swim meets.  I strive to exemplify a positive and productive spirit amongst my teammates regardless of externalities.  Because I am able to balance life’s demands, I am happy to say that I am very active in my church. Specifically, I serve on the Junior Deacon Board where I am currently the Secretary.  Also, I am one of two youth members who officially welcomes visitors during the formal announcement period at church service.

My high school career began fall 2019. As a freshman, there were many adjustments I had to make.  I quickly learned that I had to organize my time to effectively complete homework and study.  This was especially important because I train approximately 11 times per week. Training not only includes swimming, but we perform other strength and conditioning exercises and weightlifting.  During this COVID19 pandemic, alternate exercising routines have been developed.  So, while confined to my house, I perform several types of conditioning routines.  These routines include cardio to build up endurance, weight-lifting (focusing on my legs and shoulders), and abdominal exercises.

Overall, I can truly say I totally enjoy working in a team atmosphere. Training with other swimmers who encourage each other is beneficial for everyone.  We all are pushing each other to achieve our highest potential.  This environment is so exhilarating that upon retirement as a family court judge, I am seriously considering becoming a coach in a swim club.  I would love to work with young swimmers and help bring out their best performances.  This is actually what my coaches do for me; and I am thankful for them.
