In college, I am looking forward to continuing my education with the goal of one day being a medical professional and helping all people every day. I also want swimming to continue on that journey with me. I feel I am a good candidate to be a student-athlete because of my work ethic, independence, ability to work with others, the way I approach issues, and the way I challenge myself to become more every day.
Here are a few examples of my personal characteristics:
My work ethic: I have a good work ethic when I feel something is good and logical. I was granted the award for the hardest working swimmer on my High School Varsity swim team by my coach this last year in 2019.
My leadership and independence: From observation and remarks from others, I tend to be less sensitive than other kids my age and more independent. With the Boy Scouts of America, I have been trained and given opportunities to demonstrate leadership with other scouts. I am currently a Life Scout and am very close to becoming an Eagle Scout.
My ability to work with others: If my first impression of someone is not positive, I try to analyze their behavior and figure out how best to work with it. I think this is a much better approach than hating and ranting about negative people’s behavior. I really dislike drama and enemies that are created usually over some stupid misunderstanding. For example, when our JV and Varsity teams have an event, I participate and have friendships across both groups. I do not isolate myself to only the varsity members.
My approach to problem-solving: I tend to be a deep thinker and understand things through before taking action. Once I decide on a course of action I stick to it to the end and I always reflect on the good and bad consequences of that decision afterward.
My thoughts on feedback and challenging myself: I realize that everyone can improve and I must try my best to be open-minded to allow suggestions for that next level. I take advice from my coaches and friends to help me better accomplish my goals.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
