As a student-athlete, I hope to attend a college where I can pursue my love for STEM and truly make a difference in the world. One means by which I have already achieved this goal was by volunteering to be a Teacher's Assistant for underprivileged students through the Horizons Program in Portsmouth, Virginia. Though many of these children lacked materialistic wealth, I was able to use my skills to present to them a wealth of knowledge through STEM. By sharing my passion for STEM, I hoped to inspire these children to work hard and to pursue greatness. As I help these children realize their true potential through STEM, I also hope to create a positive environment that uplifts both my peers and teammates. In order to develop this positive environment as a collegiate student-athlete, I will offer inspirational advice that can help my friends through a difficult time in their life, much like I have already done as a high-schooler. Furthermore, I will continue to present my peers and my teammates with daily words of encouragement and positivity to improve their day. Finally, I will hold my teammates accountable and I will continue to lead by example so that each and every one of us can achieve greatness TOGETHER.
As the great Mother Teresa once said: "I alone cannot change the world, but I can cast a stone across the water to create many ripples." As an individual, it is impossible to single-handedly change the world. However, by creating an uplifting environment and by sharing my passion for STEM, I can truly inspire my teammates, my peers, and my community to achieve greatness and to make a difference in the world, TOGETHER.
