When I was younger, I had very little confidence and self -esteem for myself as I was always the smallest kid on the playground. Sports became something that I loved because it offered an equal chance to compete with limited drama. My first competitive sport which I participated in was Taekwondo. It taught me the importance of discipline, teamwork, hard work, and respect for everyone. When I was eleven, I took swim lessons at the YMCA the same time when I was doing Taekwondo. I would go to Taekwondo for about 2 and a half hours and then go straight to swim lessons afterwards. A love a passion was developed for swimming, like my sister, I decided to begin swimming competitively. I noticed that I started improving and decided to join the competitive team with the Mel Korum YMCA in Puyallup, WA. I tried out and was granted a spot and swimming has been an important part of me since that day in 2015. I started to take swimming and getting better more seriously and work to get a lot faster. It was taking one step at a time to achieve my goals, especially as I always written off for my smaller statute. I used this as a motivation to even get better. The last three years, I have swam on the Varsity Swim Team at Rogers High School and have qualified for SPSL league and WIAA District events. I have also qualified and competed in both YMCA State and Regional Meets (USA Sanctioned) the past two years. For 2020-2021, I have been selected as one of the co-captains of the Rogers Swim Team and my goal is to make State! My future goal is attend college and major in marine biology or business, and also swim at the college level to continue to get better and improve! I am interested on how I can contribute to help a team compete and get better.
