My name is Julian Hernandez. Ever since I was little I’ve always found my home in the water. I tried out many different sports when I was younger but none of them filled me up as much as swimming did. No matter what mood I would be in, good or bad, I would come back happy after a swim practice no matter how hard it was.
I’ve been swimming competitively in my club for about eight years now and have loved it. I started to get much more competitive around 3 years ago and that is when I realized I could accomplish great things with hard work. Pushing myself and others has become my greatest ally, not only in swimming, but also at school where I’ve worked hard for my 3.9 GPA.
I’ve learned a lot about the importance of swimming to me because of the Covid year where most pools in Oregon were shut down for many months. After four months my coach was able to get a group of us into a lake to do a little bit of swimming and that is when I realized how critical it was for me to burn energy and how swimming was that outlet for me.
During practices and meets, I will always bring a positive attitude in order to make the sets as enjoyable as possible no matter how difficult they can get. My goal will be to push other teammates and hold them accountable that way they will push me and hold me accountable as well.
