I do not remember a time in my life that I have not been motivated by swimming. As far back as age 3, our community pool and to create new guidelines for who could use the diving boards because I was the youngest person they had seen who was able to jump off the boards and swim to the ladders.
I joined my first swim team when I was in 1st grade. I began stuttering when I was in 2nd grade. During that time, the pool, and all that came with it, developed in me a level of strength, confidence and a community of friends I will value for life!
I have been blessed with amazing coaches that have seen my leadership abilities & strength of character both in and out of the pool. They have challenged me to be not only physically strong, but mentally tough as well. That, coupled with my desire to be a positive role model for my younger sisters, my teammates, school and community.
In the height of my Sophomore year's swim season, I was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes. I was surrounded immediately by an great team of professionals who assured me that this was something viral that could not have been prevented and I did nothing to cause it. And I would go on to live a very successful life as an athlete. And I have done just that! I went on to win both of my individual events at
Conference, won 3 of my 4 events at Sectionals and medaled in 3 events at State a few weeks later.
I was voted MVP by my team as well as Conference Athlete of the Year at the end of the season, and was awarded those same honors my Junior year as well.
I understand what a challenge looks like. And rather than back down or walk away, I face it head on. I want to continue to grow not only as an athlete, but also personally, and the pool, with a great team & coaches, is an amazing place to do that!
