Thanks for taking the time to check out my profile. My name is Desmon Sachtjen, I live in Lodi, Wisconsin.
I started swimming when I was 5 years old, my older sister competed on our local swim team and it was easier to have me swim than fight me from jumping in the water. Swimming has been part of my life ever since. Swimming has taught me important life lessons, including; hard work, the determination to succeed, what it takes to achieve goals, and what a true team is.
This past year I started swimming club with the McFarland Spartan Sharks team, but for High School I swim for the Sauk Prairie High School Co-op. I have qualified for the High School State Championships in Division 1 all my high school years so far. Last year as a Sophomore I was the backstroke leg of our Medley Relay team that won State, and I was the anchor on our 200 Free Relay team that finished 4th. I also qualified and finished 6th in the 200 Individual Medley and 100 Back and was named the MVP of the Sauk Prairie Co-op. My freshman year I swam with a broken bone in my ankle, I decided to wait till after the State Meet to get an MRI and the official diagnosis so I could finish out my season. I persevered and qualified in the 200 IM where I placed 10th, the 100 back where I placed 11th, and the Medley Relay where we placed 6th. I feel that after my freshman year, I grew a lot dealing with my injury and overall as a person, and was able to refocus on my goals.
This year (my junior year) was the first year I did not play football since 4th grade. My freshman and sophomore year I played on our High School Varsity Football Team, and was named as a 2nd team All-Conference player as a sophomore. This year it was a hard decision to make, but I wanted to dedicate my junior year to achieving my best times and I felt that playing football would not allow me to enhance my swim potential. I am excited to see where this year will go.
In regards to swimming events, I truly enjoy competing in all events and will do whatever to help the team. I push myself in the classroom like I do in the water. I am a driven person who never truly feels I have reached my full potential. Every time I reach a goal, I am on to the next challenge ahead.
With that being said, I am looking for a college that has both great academics and a great swim program. With this duo, I will be able to achieve my personal goals in the water and in the classroom. I would like to be part of a college swim team that strives for the best, has a coach that is a great leader and who will push me to be my best, and a team atmosphere where we all push and motivate one another. In return, I know that I can offer you a dedicated, positive, team oriented leader that is determined to be my best self in and out of the pool.
I would love the opportunity to compete at the collegiate level, all while achieving a college degree and doing something that I love.
Thank you –
Desmon Sachtjen
