My name is Ethan Boswell and I live in Charlotte, North Carolina. I discovered my passion for tennis at 6 years old. I have played multiple other sports including bicycle motocross racing, track cycling, basketball, baseball, lacrosse, ice hockey, and soccer. From age 8-11 bicycle motocross was my primary sport. I won five national events in one year, placed second in the East Coast regional event, and I was nationally ranked.
In 7th grade, I decided to focus on tennis. Since then, I have become a highly competitive junior tennis player in my district and southern section. In the 14's, I traveled to South Carolina and Georgia frequently to play high level Southern tournaments. In the 16’s, I have not been playing as many tournaments due the to COVID-19 pandemic, but I have been playing local UTR events. During the pandemic, I also joined the ATA and I won the 2021 HBCU College Combine. I train approximately 18 hours per week between on court practice and strength and conditioning workouts while maintaining a high grade point average in advanced courses.
I also work hard off court to strengthen my mental game like completing the Win4Life leadership program with Leslie Allen. Through this program I learned how to lead and communicate with others on and off the court. I also participated in the National Youth Leadership Forum Engineering Camp at Georgia Tech. During the camp, I used computer aided design to model my group’s Capstone project. I am also a member of Jack and Jill of America Incorporated. I am on the community service committee and we recently raised $23,500 to donate to three local non-profits.
Through my love of tennis I have created my own business, The Tennis Tutor LLC. I taught myself how to string and repair racquets. I also give beginner tennis lessons for my business. In my free time, I enjoy working with Computer Aided Design and 3D Printers. Using these tools, I design and print model airplane parts. One of the pieces I designed was a custom Lego piece that was showcased at an international event in Germany.
My goal is to play college tennis at a school with a strong engineering program. I am a part of Young Engineers of Today, and it has taught me how to work laser cutters, 3D printers, wood working tools, and a soldering iron. I want to study Mechanical or Mechatronics Engineering and eventually work on robotic prosthetics. I believe with my academic and tennis skills, I can be a valuable asset to your team.
