"Start where you are, use what you have, do what you can." Since I began playing tennis at the age of 5, this has been my guiding mantra. My name is Utsav Subramani, and I am a rising senior at Cheshire High School in Cheshire, Connecticut. My attitude towards this sport extends beyond the desire to win; I seek to put in 100% effort day in and day out, to do what I can with the tools at my disposable on any given day. Whether its tennis or academics, the only thing I control is my effort and work ethic, two qualities that have yielded notable success in both pursuits. Tennis is widely recognized as an individual sport, but at the high school and collegiate levels, the team element comes into play. This is crucial, because I play for something bigger when I play for my teammates. I want them to be able to depend on me, just as I depend on them. I am not only determined to perform for my school (and in doing so, honor my school's tradition), but I am also determined to stay true to my core values of humility, integrity, and selflessness. I've held a deep appreciation for the rich history of this game ever since I picked up a racket, and when it comes to being a team player, leading by example and putting the team before the individual are paramount. I strive to will myself to victory even when my back is against the wall, and I seek to provide for the greater good of my team, serving out of the spotlight. All things considered, it is my hope that playing for an elite collegiate program will allow me to develop as a tennis player, as well as a committed student and teammate.
