Hello, my name is Eddy Hoover. I have been an athlete all my life, but my main sport is tennis, which I have been playing for around 10 years now. However, it wasn't until recently when I returned from living abroad and starting played with a new coach did everything change. My coach unlike any that I had had before, but she wanted us to have big aspirations. She told us she didn't want to waste time training any of us if we weren't going to compete. She told us all- you better have the goal to play D1 tennis at college, or play professionally. And so we all had to commit ourselves to having one of those goals.
My future goal is to play men's D1 tennis at college- maybe at one of the ivy league schools, or Duke University, or Georgetown University, or Stanford- these would be my ideal choices, but of course knowing which specific university I prefer the most is not yet known. In order to achieve this goal, I know that I have a long way to go. When I started training with my coach last Summer, she immediately knew so many parts of my game had to be corrected. Her emphasis is on footwork and making sure your body is right, because this is how you can succeed the most in tennis. I started having this all corrected, and after a few months it was a lot better. There is still certainly a lot of improvement needed to be made, but with hard work and motivation to get it right in the coming months and years, I know I will be able to fix my technique and improve my tennis greatly. This motivation, of course, cannot come from anyone but yourself, and so if I want to play D1, I need to continue doing everything I am taught in order to reach higher and higher levels of playing.
I hope I can cast myself aside from he average person, or tennis player, desiring to play D1 tennis at college. In general, I challenge myself very hard and push myself to my limits. Academically, I am very motivated to learn, and next year will take very rigorous courses, including three AP classes as well as a Dual Enrollment course at a university. I am also extremely motivated to learn- not just about academics, but also other fields such as politics, law, finance, sports, and so on. By setting long term goals on what I want to do in the future, especially related to college, I know I can plan now and work towards those goals until I achieve them. However finally, I believe that I have the gift of having a positive mindset, and know that I have the determination to do anything I wish to do and stretch my capabilities. I hope these traits of character especially continue to transfer over to my tennis as well, because I know I have the ability to improve a lot if I work at it.
