My mother introduced me to tennis when I was 8. She was an excellent player during her school and trained under the National Coach in Nigeria. I fell in love with the game 10 and by 13 I was certain that I wanted to dedicate more time to tennis with the goal of definitely playing on the college team but some day seeing if I can make it on the professional circuit. I asked my parents to let me train at professional academy and at 14 I moved to Naples Florida to train full time. while my parents continued to live in NJ. I cannot imagine a day without playing. I believe in hard work and dedication on court and off court. While many say you need talent, I say you need the heart as well as the discipline. I work very hard on court and continue that as I end my day evaluating what worked and where I need improvement. My parents have always said that hard work and belief in yourself will always pay off and that by setting my goals and working towards them, I am learning life lessons. I have learnt how never to give up, how to stay focused, how to go after what you really want even if the path is a difficult one and to keep on going even when some days are harder than others and how to stay positive even in the event of adversity. These are lessons I learn everyday on the tennis court and translate that into my everyday activity, Inspite of 6 days of all day training, I have challenged myself in academics as well taking AP and honors courses. All this combined with my love for reading, sense of humor and yes culinary skills help me ground myself and get ready for the next challenge.
