Personal Statement

My name is Sam Jankovich from Atlanta, Georgia and I have a great desire to play Tennis at the college level at a Univerity with high academic standards and a tennis program that is competitive in it's conference. I have been playing tennis at both the Southern Region and National level for the past six years in addition to being a varsity starter for the past three years. I consider myself extremely strong technically and above average in speed and strength. I feel that I have significant upside potential at the college level and my best days in tennis are ahead of me. I am 6' tall and I weigh about 160 pounds. I am a line 1 singles starter for Harrison High School (AAAAA) and I have been consistently ranked in the top 20 in the State of Georgia and a #6 ranking in 2008. My High School team has been the runner-up for the past 3 years in one of the most competitive regions in the State of Georgia at the highest AAAAA level. I was a line 2 singles starter as a freshman and was awarded the Coaches Award in 2010. I have extremely strong work ethic and am looking forward to leading our team in 2011 to the State Championships. I attend the Tennis Academy of Georgia (TAG) and my personal coach for the past 5 years has been Alan Owen. Coach Owen has been awarded the Coach of the Year award in Georgia and has coached some of the best pro and college players in the country including Robbie Ginnepri and Bobby Reynolds. I have been recently working hard on my speed and strength to get ready to play at the college level. I work out at The Speed School (www.thespeedschool.com) three times a week in addition to leading my high school team through off-season conditioning. As a student, I have excellent grades, but I have to work extremely hard to stay at my current GPA of 4.02. I am part of the National Honors Society, Beta Club and National Latin Club. I plan on taking the ACT on September 11th and the SAT on October 9th. My goal is to score above a 1600 on the SAT. I am very interested in studying Business and continuing my education through Law School. I have set out some strong goals for my final USTA year of tennis and feel confident that I can achieve a ranking in the top 10 in the State of Georgia, top 50 in the South and top 300 Nationally by the summer of 2011. I am also working hard in the off-season with 14 other High School teammates to win our Region and go all the way to the State Finals. In closing, I pride myself on strong work ethic, integrity and a desire to help my team win. I am a team player and will be a major contributor to your program both on and off the court. I encourage you to see me play. The following is a link to highlights of a win over a 4 star player in the recent Southern Clay Courts Open in July (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ciXj3rLpCu8).
