The City of Lights Tennis Academy made me the able student-athlete that I am today. I first joined the academy during the off-season of my Sophomore year. It taught me how to manage my time wisely by balancing between tennis after school and my first AP class. This would come in handy later during my Junior year with the addition of more AP classes and various clubs. It was during the year that I decided to take a larger leadership role in Key Club and as a result our club was able to raise enough funds to help support a well in an impoverished village in Western Africa. Those leadership skills came in handy when my coach selected me to be team captain. I was very proud that I was able to lead my team to the most victories in a decade and I hope I can lead them to do even better this year.
I have aspirations for playing tennis throughout college at a competitive level. I’m not too selective about which college I go to as long as I’ll be able to get an excellent education at an affordable price. Spending my entire high school career in the Magnet Academy has prepared me for college level courses and aided me in my academic pursuits. I believe that this training will allow me to better manage my time so that I could spend less time studying and more time on the court working to improve individually and as a team.
