When I visualize my athletic and academic collegiate experience, I see it as a personal growth period. My academic goals are to obtain a degree in computer science in a rigorous program, and as an athlete, I definitely want to be a contributing player both on the tennis court and as a teammate and am looking for a program that will challenge me and my comfort zone to assist me in being the best competitor and team member possible--whether that be at the DI, DII, DIII or NAIA level. I am not afraid of hard work and often take the initative to do more with my training on and off the court. I have the same drive and competitiveness towards my academics as I do my athletics and am always looking to set new personal best goals. Both my teachers and coaches have made note of my drive, work ethic, leadership, and coachability.
I have been a successful multi-sport athlete since a young age and started tennis later than most collegiate players. From age 4, I spent 7 years in gymnastics, where through that process, discipline was instilled from the very beginning and led me to be a successful 2x State and Regional champion. Due to a significant growth-spurt in the last year and a half, at age 11, I decided to switch to tennis and have focused on that as my main sport ever since. My athleticism helped me learn quickly and my competiveness helped me compete despite weaknesses early on in my game. I believe I still have a lot of growth potential in my game and look forward to the challenge of continuing to improve my game in all areas. I have also played soccer from a young age, and as a sophomore played on my high school's State runner-up team. I take my role as a teammate to heart, and even though I may be the top player on my HS tennis team, I understand my role as a leader and enjoy taking time with helping grow the game of my teammates and friends and being a part of a close-knit team.
As a tennis player, my strengths of my physical game are my speed, serve, backhand, and strong defensive play. I often run down shots that my opponent does not expect and do not give up on a point. I continue to work on my net game as I enjoy being an all-court player, and building my knowledge in playing smarter points--I am open to feedback since I know it will improve me as a player. With my strengths academically, athletically and personally, I believe I can be an assett to a collegiate tennis program and look forward to making my team, my coaches, and my school proud of not only who I am as a player, but as a person.
