As a junior in high school, this is my 4th year playing varsity tennis for Lakeville South H.S. I started playing tennis a little late (7th grade), but was hooked right away. After playing traveling basketball for several years, I already had a toughness and competitiveness about me. Developing as a tennis player has required hard work, focus, and persistence. This has helped me be successful both on and off the court.
I realized quickly that tennis was the sport for me and began training for tennis year-round in 8th grade. I particularly like the high school season because of the team aspect that is emphasized. Also, it offers more opportunities to play doubles at which I excel. In the off season, I play tournaments through the USTA. With the help of my dad and his training in Kinesiology, I have had a solid tennis-specific conditioning program that has helped me improve my performance and avoid injuries. Now that I have transitioned to 18’s in USTA tournaments, I will play many tournaments this summer to better my ranking.
In the2016 tennis season my record is 22 and 4 going into sections. I have played 1st doubles in a competitive conference and our school has been fortunate enough to play in the best invitational tournaments in the state this year. We are starting sections in a few days and hope to go to State this year as a team. My partner and I are also hoping to have a good run in the section and state individual tournament in doubles this year.
As a Senior Captain next year, I look forward to being a leader for our young team. It has been inspiring to grow from a youngster on a respectable older team to a senior on a relatively young team that is currently ranked 7th in the state. My little brother, Brendon, made varsity as a 7th grader this year. I look forward to continuing to help mold his game and positive attitude. As a personal goal, I would like to pass the 100 career varsity wins mark. I am currently at 68!
Thanks for reading about me.
