My name is Ethan Mengel, I am a freshman at Wilson High School. As someone very passionate about tennis I have been playing tennis since I was 3 years old. Playing in college is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and from 10 years old I already knew that this was my dream.
I have a very well-rounded game with lots of different types of shots. I have a one-handed backhand and like to move in with my backhand slice. My serve is one of the strongest factors of my game paired with good returning. My defense is another strong part of my game and I look to counter-attack. I am a very coachable player and am always looking to learn more. I strive to be the hardest working player on and off the court along with good sportsmanship and very coachable.
I work hard to work towards my goal of playing high-level tennis in college. I am on the court 5 days a week and train at Hillcrest Racquet Club in Exeter PA, and have been training with my coach Will Hill. My UTR rating is 4.04 and I am looking to boost that ranking with more tournaments in 2024. I work just as hard in the weight room.
In the classroom, I study hard to maintain a GPA of 3.87. I was elected into the National Junior Honors Society and have been on the high honor roll for the past four years. I have received the Healthy Living Award and the Silver President's Award for Educational Excellence. In addition to tennis and my academics, I volunteer with a fall tennis clinic for middle school students as a student-athlete coach. I also have volunteered to help with the students who are competing in the Wilson Special Olympics and am in the Letters of Love club.
I would like to go to a college where I can compete at the highest level I can while pushing myself in the classroom and on the court. I am open to all options and want to find the college that best suits me. I hope to be a role model on and off the court and help out the community wherever I go.
