Hi Coaches. My name is Aidan Cates. I'm a senior at Centennial High School in Burleson, Texas. I started my tennis experience in 6th grade and I just loved the game. I've never had the opportunity to be a 'country club kid', and I believe I'm unique in that I've improved and gotten where I am today from hard work and watching others. My Dad has spent hours with me, knowing he couldn't afford lessons.
One of my goals is to play college tennis and improve to become the best player I can be. Another goal that I have would hopefully to be in the top 100 players in the world. I think I would be a good candidate because I practice all the time and work hard to improve my skills. I’m willing to learn more and get better. What makes be different from a lot of players is that I have two forehands. Also I’m really competitive and want to win at everything. When I’m down during a match I don’t give up and still try to win. During practice when some of my teammates are struggling I try to help them or encourage them.
As a Sophomore, I made it to #2 on the Spartan Varsity Team. Unfortunately, before Spring Season, I had a minor knee injury that required surgery. Then COVID happened. But through hard work, I won the #1 spot in my Junior year and my doubles partner and I won District and played in Regionals.
Even though I have trophies and awards I'm not here to impress you with that, to me tennis is much more than that. Over the summer I volunteer my time to teach the next generation of tennis players. When I'm on the court I'll give you a 110%.
