Hello College Coaches,
My name is Diego Cromeens and I currently attend Deer Park High School in Deer Park, TX. Growing up in Deer Park I was a multi sport athlete. Football, basketball, and baseball were my three major sports that I competed in during the seasons. I also competed in soccer, swim, cross country, track and field, and tennis in my junior high years. Playing multiple sports growing up has given me the opportunity to become a better athlete and competitor in tennis.
I started playing tennis a little bit in junior high and my interest started to peak on the sport. I took some summer camps through my high school to continue my growth in tennis. My varsity coach, Tommy Heim, informed me that I had a good shot of making varsity as a freshman. This was somewhat captivating to me, to have the potential to play a varsity sport as a freshman. I continued to work hard and learn on all aspects of the game. I did end up making the varsity tennis team as a freshman. By my sophomore year in high school I had worked my way up to the #5 seed on the team. We had a very successful year and made it all the way to the regional semi-finals in the 6A state tournament of Texas. I continued to work hard, and during my junior year I had worked my way up to the #1 seed on the team. We had another successful year and once again made it to the regional semi-finals. I was also awarded the 22 6A district MVP. I personally feel that my success in tennis has to do with playing multiple sports growing up and having a strong work ethic. These two items have increased my athleticism and have given me a competitive advantage on the court. A quote I found that sums up my work ethic is “you can’t have million dollar dreams with a minimum wage work ethic.”
I spend many hours a week playing tennis for my high school. In the fall, team tennis is played on Tuesdays and Fridays. During the spring, individual tennis is played on Fridays and Saturdays. I participate in USTA tennis matches as well as UTR matches when I am not playing in a school tournament. I meet with my coach, Jack Stamps, twice a week for two hours each session. I work on ball placement, serves, defense, offense, volley drills, and stamina. Outside of tennis, I enjoy attending my church youth group and hanging out with others during church. I enjoy playing volleyball and basketball in my spare time. I also enjoy tinkering around on my 1995 Ford Mustang(that doesn’t run) and learning how to get an engine running. It’s clearly evident that I am in the learning process per the engine parts are all over the garage. As for school, my favorite subject is History and I enjoy classes that require hands on learning. I am currently reaching out to the community to help others for tennis lessons. I hope this will help young athletes in my community desire to play tennis for Deer Park High School. My determination, perseverance, and desire to learn and grow as an athlete and student are qualities that will transfer to the college I attend. I look forward to applying those skills to my college tennis team. I would be a great addition to a competitive tennis team.
Thank you,
Diego Cromeens
