When I was young, I played all sorts of sports, including tennis, basketball and soccer. In my elementary years I was on a club baseball team (catcher). In middle school I focused on martial arts, ultimately earning a 2nd degree level 2 black belt in taekwondo. Beginning in middle school I started to play tennis for the school team. Starting 4 years ago (October 2014), I began to play USTA tournaments. By the summer of 2015, I was "all in" on tennis and have continued to improve ever since.
My style of play is aggressive. I like fast, hard-hitting points. I will rally from the baseline, play a drop shot, serve-and-volley, or pull the opponent in and either lob or pass him. I am a student of the game and tennis athletes, and spend a lot of my free time watching old matches and picking up pointers from the professionals. I have really enjoyed team tennis in high school, and have led the team in wins in both my freshman and sophomore year. I am most proud of my MVP award sophomore year (2017-2018) as it represents to me that I was able to deliver in big matches when my team needed me. Losing in the Regional quarterfinals during fall 2017 season drove me in the spring 2018 season to make it to the State Quarterfinals in singles. Over summer 2018, I was asked to join Team Tennis, and was proud that our team, who hadn't played together before, was able to take 3rd place in Texas. We built on that by returning to Junior Team Tennis in summer 2019, taking 2nd place in Texas in our division.
I am hoping to continue my tennis journey in college somewhere where I can grow academically, as a tennis player, and as an individual.
