My goal in life has always been to be the best whether it's sports I participate in, academics, or life on the day to day basis; I always strive for excellence. I have had many memorable athletic accomplishments in a variety of sports since I was five years old. I have never gloated or tried to put myself above others based on my talents.
One of my strongest character traits is humility; I know where I have come from and I know who has modeled me into the hard working athlete I am today. I am always ready for a challenge and I am willing to face any situation head on. When I was ending my successful junior season my coach pulled me aside and told me he was proud of me, not for my skill in the game, he was proud of the great humility I showed when I won and my ability to have an upbeat attitude and readiest for the next match after a loss.
My grades do not reflect my academic ability. I could have applied myself more; whenever I applied myself I was able to get good grades and accomplish any task that was asked of me. I remember my older sibling being upset with an A- while I was content if I got a B. Looking back, I wish I had put the same effort into my academics as I did sports. I know that I have the potential to do well in school and I look forward to excelling in my academics in College.
Lastly, there's always opportunities to be a good person on and off the court or field. It's the will and "need" to act on the opportunities that truly define you as a person. That being said, I have always had the need to be the best person I can be whether I'm helping my teammates to better their craft, in school helping my friends and others with their classes, or holding the door open in the pouring rain for people with a smile on my face. True character is seen by how you live your life and how you behave when you are being watched and when nobody is watching. My character is reflected by my positive attitude and willingness to learn from my mistakes.
I am looking forward to the opportunity to play the sport I love in College. I am truly excited to start my future playing tennis and getting to bond with my new teammates and make new memories. I plan to work harder than I ever had before, with everything I have learned and the work I put into honing my talents over the years. I would make a fine addition to any roster.
