Hello, my name is Owen Plate and I am a class of 2024 tennis player attending Plymouth High School. I have had a racket in my hand playing tennis. constantly since a young age. I fell in love with the game early in life when I began to realize the physical and mental advantages of playing tennis, along with the constant fun and competitiveness. Playing in a tennis match gives me the exhilaration and joy that I will constantly enjoy for the rest of my career.
This year I played on my school's varsity tennis team. During my season I went undefeated not losing any more then 4 games in any of my matches. This is just a single example of my hard work and competitiveness when I am out on a tennis court. I constantly give my best effort to get to every ball, hoping to win every point, giving whatever it takes. On my team, I am a leader and I have a great attitude towards my training. I have great ground strokes and a great volley which complements my big serve. I generally play a very aggressive game, yet, I can also grind out points when necessary. I mainly competitively play singles but have played in various doubles tournaments before. Doubles has helped me greatly with my net play and accuracy.
Other than my high school team I train year around at the Sports Core in Kohler, Wisconsin. Between my coaches Kim Evans, Stuart Nett, and Jasper Letson at the club, I have lots of support and crucial coaching. I also play in USTA and UTR tournaments as much as possible while working around my other sports and commitments.
Other then tennis, I graduated 8th Grade with a 4.0 GPA and freshman Year with a 3.99 GPA. My parents have always said that school comes first which has allowed me to strive in my classes, and focus more on tennis when I am out of school. Next Year, I will take 6 accelerated classes which include, Accelerated Chemistry, Anatomy and Physiology, Accelerated Pre-Calculus, Accelerated English 2, and Spanish 3. I also play basketball, and soccer for Plymouth High School. I played Varsity as a freshman for soccer and was on the JV2 team for Basketball. Playing other sports has helped me become much more diverse and developed as an athlete, which has helped me immensely with tennis.
Tennis has been a passion of mine since I was young and I hope to continue my career in tennis while continuing my studies at college. I believe I have the attitude and skills to succeed at a college that is looking for a dominant, hard working, passionate athlete.
