My name is Micah Falk and I’m currently a senior. Currently I’m standing at 6’2” These physical elements help me to succeed as an athlete by allowing me to cover more area faster, jump higher and have a longer reach than my opponents.
I have been playing different organized sports since kindergarten and have found that my true love is for soccer, which I have been playing since I was 5 years old. Initially I played on the field for a half and in goal for a half, but when I was 10 I became the dedicated keeper when I started to play up an age level for the U12 select team. It was then that I really started to focus hard on the position and train with my dad who also was a keeper for 12 years, and signed to play Division 1 in college but an injury cut his career short. Then, through our club’s DOC, I had the opportunity to meet professional goalkeeper Marcel Feenstra who played overseas and most recently with the Milwaukee Wave. He agreed to personally train me with private 1v1 lessons which we did for a couple of years.
Between my dad and Marcel and my clubs keeper coach, I have excelled beyond other keepers my age with a solid understanding of proper technique and movement. This has given me the confidence to be the leader that is needed in the keeper position and to direct my teammates on the field to reduce scoring opportunities for the other team. It is this advance technique, confidence, leadership and ability to communicate on the field that has led to my successes with my teams and secured me a position on the Wisconsin State ODP the 2 years I did it. I hope to be recognized as one of the top keepers in the state.
Other than sports, I also enjoy music. I played 1st trombone in our school’s band and was in jazz band. But I took a break for two years but missed it and joined back and now play 2nd chair. I sing for the school’s choir, my church choir and have participated in numerous musicals through both our community’s performing arts program and for the school. And after getting the lead role in this year’s school musical, I have gained enough confidence to participate in Solo Ensemble and tryout for the state of Wisconsin’s Honors Choir at the recommendation of my music teacher.
Because I love sports and music so much, I have worked very hard at maintaining my grades so I can continue to participate in them – my parents have always said grades come first! I currently have a cumulative GPA of 3.86. Ive taken many accelerated and AP classes throughout high school. Overall I enjoy school and my favorite subjects are math and history. In high school, I would like to graduate with honors and take advanced placement classes to have some college credits going in at the start.
In conclusion, with my strong work ethic, focus and determination, along with my formal training, I believe I can be successful both on the field and off the field and I’m looking for a college that can help me achieve just that.
