My name is Mason Sartain, I am a grade 11 student at Bonnyville Centralized High School in Bonnyville Alberta. In my earlier years soccer and football were large parts of my life. I enjoyed everything about both sports, soccer the speed and agility needed to play the game and football the power and toughness required to excel on the field.
When I was 13 years old at a local school track meet I realized how much faster I was getting over my peers who were taller and stronger than I, even with those advantages over me I was still placing 2nd or 3rd in the 100m and 200m. I promised myself I would come back the following year and win in every event I competed in (100m 200m Long Jump). I talked with my parents, who then signed me up for The Lakeland Yellow Jackets our local track and field club. I quickly realized I love everything about track. I find great personal joy in training and then competing and seeing my results of that training, giving all I have to give and at the end of the track win or lose having no excuses. I don't just like track I truly do love it.
I have put a lot of time and effort into becoming one of the best youth sprinters in Alberta since I was 13 (50 hours a month in training) and I will continue to put in the time and effort required to reach my dreams, College, national teams.....Olympics.
From the time I began track and began to take it extremely serious it has opened up another door for me that I was not expecting. With all the high level of competition I have found myself competing in I realized that I am now looking at a career in sports medicine, specifically in the fields of physiotherapy or kinesiology both of these career paths interest me greatly. I never would have even considered these things as a future for myself until I found how much I use them both for my own personal health and recovery in my training, This has happened because of track and field.
My dedication and hard work has paid off, I am currently the reigning 100 meter and 200 meter Provincial Champion in my age group, also the 100 meter Club Provincial Champion and 200 m silver medalist for the 2018 season. I plan to continue my hard work and dedication to my sport but also my academics.
thank you for your time.
Sincerely, Mason Sartain
