My name is Orion Barger and I am an athlete at Pima Community College. In my first season of college track and field I made it to indoor nationals in both the 400m and the 600m. A mixture of nerves, poor time management, and inexperience competing at nationals with this team led me to fall ill after my first day of competition where I ran a 1:20.24 in the 600m to secure 9th place and an abysmal 49.77 less than an hour after my 600m for 29th place in the 400m. In outdoor season I focused on the 400m and despite not having a track to run on or any real practices for the 2.5 weeks leading up to Nationals I still ended up PRing in the 400 with a 47.42 and finishing 11th. In my outdoor season I ran 5 total 400's and in every one of them I went sub 48. This upcoming season I plan on running cross country to prepare to become an 800m weapon, my goal is to go at least low 1:50s by the end of the season and I know that will be possible with my speed and how fast my 600 was with bare minimum endurance training at that point. My GPA for the first semester was a 3.54 and 2nd semester was a 3.50.
