James Maturan '12 Recruiting Profile

I am a 5'3'' senior sprinter from La Crescenta, CA. My GPA is 3.6 and SAT score is 1750. I have run club for 5 years and competed in AAU and USATF youth nationals in 2008 and 2011. My main event is the 100m Dash and currently have a PR of 11.25. I also run the 200m in 23.30 and the 400m in 52.11.

In 2008, I qualified for USATF's Junior Olympics in the Youth Boys 400m Dash while being a second year youth boy. I was able to make it the finals and placed 8th overall. In 2011, I qualified for AAU's Olympic Games in the Young Men's 100m Dash and 200m while only being a first year young man.

I offer hardwork and the desire to improve abilities. I am always the first one to warm up and the last one to leave the weight room. I strongly center my work ethic on the basis of the quote, "The desire to win means nothing without the desire to train." Everyday I browse through websites like Complete Track and Field and Athletes Acceleration in search for better ways to train and get faster.

I would like to attend college on the West Coast and near the city because I've grown up in these kinds of environments and adjusted really well to the kind of atmosphere the city life has provided. However I am also opened to attending schools on the East Coast because I have spent countless trips and vacations there and have a lot of close relatives spread all throughout the coast. I  wish to study in the fields of computer engineering or computer sciences and do not really have a preferance for big or small schools. 

My athletic goals consist of running as a freshman and competing in as many meets possible in order to obtain the most important training element: experience.
