Winning the California State Championship as a sophomore in high school is the highlight of my Cross Country career so far. However, joining a team of great runners my freshman year, with 7 competitive juniors, forged my competitive drive and desire to contribute to the success of an already excellent team. I strove to be the best that I could be in every practice and race, earning my way to become one of the top 5 runners as we entered into the state competition. In the state championship, I had my best race of the season, finishing 3rd on my team despite many of my teammates falling off in times, which put us in 3rd as a team that year. This wasn't good enough for me or my teammates, and we strove to be the first team in school history to win State that following year. My coaches and teammates gave me the nick-name "Clutch" for my ability to pull through during the hardest of times and when my team needed me the most. Junior year has proven to be a new challenge, as 7 senior runners graduated, and my coaches asked me to be team captain. I have grown a lot in this new role, helping a very young team learn to compete and strive toward their goals. No longer having older runners to compete with, I have had to grow in self-motivation and desire. I have set many new school records in hopes of being the fastest runner in school history. Though our young team fell a little short of getting back to State this year, I was able to represent my school as an individual at the State Championship earning a top 10 finish and receiving CIF all-state honors.
I'm looking for a program that suits me athletically and academically.
