My name is Mateus Johnson and I live in Los Angeles, California where I attend the private Jesuit school Loyola High School. Growing up I primarily played soccer, in small part due to my Brazilian background. But, I eventually realized Track & Field was my sport. Since being introduced to the sport in 5th grade I’ve fallen in love with Track and the success I’ve achieved. Now, in my junior year, I have competed with my high school team for three years. I specialize in the 400m but also excel in the 200m and 100m. During my sophomore year I had a successful season where I managed to record a 50.6, 22.7, and 11.27 all in the same season. Disappointingly, I have recently aggravated my hamstring which has kept me from being able to put times down this season. Luckily, I am making steady progress in my recovery and I’m beyond excited to showcase my talent this upcoming Summer/Fall in individual meets and in my senior year with my high school team. My goal is to attend a university that provides me with a great education and a reputable track program so I can continue excelling as a student-athlete and be prepared for my future as an adult.
