As a thrower, I'm self-driven and motivated to improve my distances as much as possible. I'm 100% willing to work hard with implements and/or weights every day. I've received very little coaching from my school, lacking an adequate throwing coach on the team during my 2021 season, and am eager to work with a college coach who can provide consistent quality instruction.
I began throwing in 9th grade and instantly fell in love with the shot put. I picked up weightlifting during my Freshman season, and have continued to train diligently in the weight room. In January of 2020, I suffered a dislocation of my right elbow during a wrestling match that forced me to adapt to throwing with my non-dominant left arm. Despite this obstacle, I'm devoted to improving my throws. I trained over quarantine and for most of the 2021 season without coaching, and am now working (mostly remotely) with Coach McLaughlin, a throws coach from another high school.
The 2021 track season gave me a chance to excel, achieving first place marks in the shot put at every meet except one, and finishing ranked 2nd in the section. My competition record in varsity shot put is 48 feet flat with the rotational technique, and I plan to continue working on my stands, half-turns, and full rotations 3-4 days a week over the summer, as well as weight training 5 days per week with a focus on explosive workouts. I'm determined to improve significantly over this next year, and have a goal to compete at the state level during the 2022 season.
Academically, I've strived to challenge myself throughout high school. I've taken as many honors and AP classes as possible, and have maintained a 4+ GPA all years of high school. My ultimate goal in high school is to graduate as one of my school's valedictorians. I'm self-driven to give school as much effort as possible while also staying extremely active in weight training and extracurriculars. I plan to continue pursuing academic excellence in college and will give school 100%.
