Hi, my name is Edward and one thing I realized about myself is when I play a sport and someone new joins the team or someone is really shy, I welcome them and make them feel like they are not left out. Being in sports made me who I am as a person. Basketball was the first sport I ever played and got me motivated to be more active. After that I had a passion for running. Running was something I didn't know I was good at until middle school. Both basketball and running are what keep me motivated and determined to do better in anything. It keeps me thinking positive and that there's nothing to worry about and enjoy the moments in life. Being social, doing sports and being an honor roll student are what keep me determined.
I make sure all the runners do what they are supposed to do and make they are running and stretching properly. I make sure the newcomers feel welcome to the team and make them feel confident on running. I might not be the greatest leader but every time i lead a group or a team, they always do good or at least improve on what they were struggling in. Being a leader is something i enjoy being and i love the feeling of seeing the people i teach or see the group or team i lead happy and enjoy what i do to help them. And i think that just makes me that much more better at being a leader. As a leader, i try to improve not just my teammates and the people i work with, but also myself.
I'm ready to work hard and enjoy all the things college will have in store for me. I'm always thinking positive and looking on the bright side of things. Even when life chooses a different path. Life chose a different path for my family and myself 5 years ago. After my twelfth birthday, something happened that changed my life forever. My father was killed in a motorcycle accident the summer before I started eighth grade. It came as a shock as I had just seen my dad that morning. I remember, I kept asking my dad if I could go on the motorcycle with him and he kept telling me no. After the incident happened, I told myself that it was my fault and that this would have never happened if I was there with him. I struggled with my grades because of this, from 8th grade till the end of freshman year. After that, I told myself that this is not what he would have wanted. I started having a stronger mindset and sophomore year would end up being my best year academically and athletically.
