Personal Statement

I began running in Seventh grade when I joined Track. Little did I know, I would end up falling in love with the sport of running. When I started out, I was just running for fun with no aspirations to run fast or past high school. However, as I continued to grow as a runner during my Freshman Track season, I realized that if I worked hard enough, I could improve and get faster. It sparked the idea that I might one day be able to run at the collegiate level. Ever since then, I’ve pushed myself to become better and never settling for anything less than what I’ve worked for. I’ve had over five minutes of improvement in the Three Mile dropping my time from 21:45 down to 16:23 in my Junior year.

That’s not to say that there haven't been challenges. My Sophomore Track season ended prematurely due to sickness and I dealt with a major surgery that summer before Cross Country. Those weeks with no physical activity were very difficult. I was nervous, unsure about how I would perform in the season. When I began running again, my coaches had confidence and pushed me and helped me not only to get back to my previous level of fitness, but also exceed what I thought I was capable of. That season our team went undefeated through every meet until state, winning our SFL Conference title as well as a CIF Sac-Joaquin Division II title.

On campus, I spend most of my time focusing on grades. Academics are very important to me and I take several college level classes. As of my Junior year, I have a 3.88 GPA and hope to raise it. I also have a passion for Broadcasting. I am a part of WCTV-19, a Rocklin Television station where I am a Staff Leader for the Sports program. I work to create sports highlights packages that feature sporting events from around our campus. Every day I work hard to balance my academics with my athletics as well as my extracurriculars.

Now, I hope to compete at the college level and get a chance to prove how hard I will work. I never settle for less than my best and always strive for improvement.
