I went from being the best freshman jumper in my league to being the fastest sophomore hurdler in the section in just a few months. While I was a jumper as a freshman, I switched to hurdling my sophomore year, and placed 13th in my section by the end of the year, with only a few months of training. I learned to hurdle quickly, surprising even my coach, who's been coaching for 30+ years. I think that my teachability, my ability to pick up skills and technique, really makes me an asset. I've always learned quickly, and I enjoy getting better at my sport. While some of my friends dread the long hurdles training sessions, I enjoy them, because I want to be the best that I can be.
Last year was a big jump, I went from a 15.6 in the high hurdles to a 14.3. I went from 13th in the section to 13th in the state, and in a state where 3200 other kids competed in the 110m hurdles, but it wasn't enough for me, I felt like I could've run better, and this year, I will. My goal this season is to break 14 and set a school record. It might be hard, but with the right training, lots of dedication and a healthy amount of stubbornness, I'll do it. No senioritis here, just determination.
