Personal Statement

My name is Rylan Hansen and I am a 6'2", 180lb. senior at Royal High School in Simi Valley, California. I am a three year Varsity Track and Field athlete specializing in hurdles, sprints and relays. This year I have decided to try long jump as well. I am a Multi-Sport athlete and have played Basketball, Soccer and Volleyball in High School. Starting my Freshman year I ran on the Frosh Soph Team all year. I was the number one sprinter on the Frosh Soph Team. At the Marmonte League finals I placed 3rd in the 300 Hurdles at the League Finals and 8th in the 100 Final. Our Relay team finished 3rd in the 4x100. At our season ending Banquet I received the Frosh/Soph Most Valuable Sprinter Award. During my Freshman year I started on the Sophomore Basketball team and I played on the Frosh/Soph Volleyball team.Starting my Sophomore year in Track and Field I ran on the Varsity Team all year and competed in the Frosh Soph Finals in the Marmonte League. I was seeded 1st going into the 100 Meter Final, 200 Meter Final and the 300 Low Hurdles Final. I took 2nd in the 100 Final, 2nd in the 300 Hurdles Final and 5th in the 200 Final. My relay team also took 2nd in the 4x100 Relay Final. At our season ending Banquet I received the Future Star Award. During my Sophomore year I started on the JV Basketball team and started on the JV Volleyball team. I was pulled up to Varsity in Volleyball at the end of the year.During my Junior year, I ran Varsity Track all season and was the number 1 sprinter and hurdler on our team. I took 4th Place at the Marmonte League Finals in the 100 meters, 4th in the 300 meter hurdles and our 4x100 Relay team took 3rd place and moved on to the C.I.F Prelims. At our season ending Banquet I received the Most Valuable Hurdler Award. I PR’d in all of my main events during the 2013 season. I am looking to push all of those times even lower during my Senior season. During my Junior Season I dropped out of Basketball and played Soccer in High School. I started the season on the JV team and was pulled up to Varsity near the end of the year. Our team made it to the C.I.F. Division 2 Semi-Finals. I also started on the Varsity Volleyball team during my Junior year as the Opposite Hitter.  At our season ending Banquet I received the Most Improved Player Award.During my Senior year I have decide to commit all of my time and energy into training for the upcoming Track Season. I have begun full time training in Track and Field and have also dedicated more time in the weight room to help build my core and strength. I will only be playing volleyball as another sport this year and have completely dropped Basketball and Soccer even though the coaches keep inquiring.Prior to high school while at Grace Brethren Elementary I received the Christian Character Award at my 6th Grade Graduation. There were two of these awards given out for my 6th grade Graduating Class, one boy and one girl. It was an honor to receive this award, and I was very grateful to the fact my teachers gave it to me. When I was a Youth runner on the Simi Valley Running Rebels I ran a 15.25 100 Meter Hurdle time and I was ranked in the Top 10 in the Nation for my age group.          For the past two years I have incurred over a 100 hours of Community Service volunteering my time to coach at Volleyball Clinics through Simi Valley Parks and Recreation as well as helping out with the Simi Valley Running Rebels our local Youth Track and Field Club. I enjoy working with the youth athlete and letting them know they can accomplish anything if they put their mind to it. I recognize the importance of being an ambassador for my school and plan on continuing this tradition in college.I am very eager to run at the collegiate level. Academically I am interested in studying in the fields of Kinesiology, Sports Medicine or Business. I am looking for a college or university that will help me develop in every aspect of life, not just the physical and mental aspects. I am a Christian and would definitely be open to attending a school that would help develop me spiritually and strengthen my love of my Lord Jesus Christ. I belonged to the FCA Fellowship of Christian Athletes at my high school during my Junior year and went to Grace Brethren Elementary in Simi Valley from Kindergarten through 6th grade.  I know that colleges, universities, and their coaching staff look to find people who will reflect well on them as a student and graduate. I can say with confidence that I will be one of those people. If you think I would be a really good fit with your program, please contact me.
