My name is Xavier Stephen Pitula and I am currently a junior at Sutter High School in Sutter, California. I have been running track and field for approximately five years and cross-country for over three years.
In cross-country, the races I compete in are:
3-miles
5K / 5,000-meters
In track & field, the races I compete in are:
800-meters
1,600-meters
3,200-meters
Running is a passion of mine, and one I have come to enjoy more and more over the years. Last year, our team qualified for the State Championship in XC. To achieve that goal my sophomore year in high school with my team was such an amazing feeling and an experience I will always remember. This year in XC our team took our first ever Division 4 CIF Championship at Sections and again qualified to compete at the State Championship at the end of November. My coaches, my teammates and myself are constantly pushing our boundaries to reach these goals and I only wish to improve my times in the upcoming years.
In track, I made the Varsity team as a sophomore and competed in three events. The 800-meter, 1,600-meter and 3,200-meter. Together as a team we placed first in our league and qualified for the Sections meet. Again, I was able to run for distance and help my team achieve some of its goals. This season we plan on going further than the year before and are setting our sights on the State Championship tournament by pushing ourselves and striving to create new PR’s in each event.
Being a student athlete has taught me so much already. I have learned how to balance academics and athletics quite well. I know that I need to make sacrifices in order to reach my ambitions. I know pressures and I understand that although I am running as an individual I am running for my team as well. Teammates are an invaluable source of support and friendship and without them, we could never reach our goals. I have learned that running is a not just a physical sport, it is a mental one and having the ability to clear your mind while running and push past the pain is sometimes a necessity.
Ultimately, my goal is to run in college and obtain my degree at the same time. I plan to major in the mathematics and science field and currently have a 3.29 GPA. I envision my college years will be a time of personal growth in every aspect. No matter what, I will represent my college/university well, hold myself with honor, and respect while competing. I know that how I carry myself reflects on my team, my coaches and the school I attend.
In closing, thank you for taking the time to read my personal statement. I cannot imagine how many of these statements you read daily and I know your time is valuable. So, thank you, and I look forward to being given the chance to represent your school in the best way possible. Academic achievement and athletic accomplishments!
