Personal Statement

Hey there, my name is Daniel Martinez. I am a senior in PUC Community Charter high school in CA, and as of now I have been running cross country for four years. The first year I did cross country was just for the fun of it and came out of the season with a pretty measly PR of 23 minutes. Over the next two years I educated myself on the aspects of running and absolutely fell in love with the sport and sensation running gave me. By the end of junior year XC I was running 17:20 at pierce college, and now as a senior in the early stages of my 2024 season, I have a new PR of 16:03 at the Woodbridge Cross Country Classic invitational. I have a strong desire to continue running in college and even beyond that, as I am a devoted athlete with a genuine love for what I do. I have great social skills, I have been D5 north valley league champion at the Pierce College course two years in a row now, and I take my diet and sleep very seriously in order to optimize performance. In conclusion, I think if given the opportunity to work under serious coaches and teammates that push me to my limits, I can be an amazing collegiate runner, and possibly achieve my goal times of 3:40 in the 1500 1:50 in the 800, and above all, 31 minutes in the XC 10k (or 14 minutes in the 5k). Thank you for your time and consideration.

Events

  • Camp/Event
  • Elevation Training Camp At Mammoth Lakes CA (Year 2)
  • 7/29/24 to 8/05/24
  • Over our wonderful week training at elevation, we logged a total of 78 miles worth of high effort running in order to prepare us for our final cross country season. I got to spend time with both teammates and my competition, who had become some of my greatest friends thanks to last year's Mammoth Trip. Most of our courses were run above 8000 feet above season level, with 2 or 3 out of our 12 runs being at about 7500 feet. Throughout this week we not only ran, but performed chores and household responsibilities in order to continue living in a clean, and comfortable space during our trip. As soon as I got back down to Los Angeles, I felt stronger, and more efficient on my runs, and I am absolutely ecstatic too see how this year's elevation training will assist me in conquering my goals in Cross Country.
  • Camp/Event
  • Elevation Training at Mammoth Lakes CA (no official name to it)
  • 7/29/23 to 8/05/23
  • This camp was really my first exposure to people who I didn't know from my team, and we all got along amazingly. It provided great competition over the following cross country year, and the training we did was super beneficial. Rundown: Two runs per day with the morning being steady pace over long distances, and the evening runs being either an easy run of speed workout depending on the day. When not running we did cold plunges, used hot tubs, or ate out around town. 10/10 experience.
