My name is Xander Merkwan and I believe I would be a great addition to your team, because of my love for the sport, dedication, dependability, and my self determination. I went into running with no background at all. Before falling into cross country I had played basketball for 6 years and was sure that was where my future was. Until my mom pushed me to run. From that first day I was hooked. Running allows you to be part of a team, but to also push yourself to excel until you think and feel you will break both mentally and physically. It's the rush of all rushes! From my first season my goal has been the same, to represent my team to victory and to be the best runner possible. Being part of a college team is my dream. I want to be a part of something bigger than myself. To be among other individuals who share the passion I have for running. To help support them, as well as earn their support. Together we will push all limits. I strongly believe in being a team player. This means being a positive influence, loyal, hard working, committed and honest athlete. For the past two years I have maintained a 3.8 to 4.0 GPA while being a member of our varsity cross country and track team. I was able to maintain this while attending three morning practices and five afternoon practices each week. I have been a member of the California Scholarship Federation the past two years and believe strongly that my academics will lead me to my future careers goals and success.
