Andrew Meredith '18 Recruiting Profile

I’ve always wanted to push my limits and test myself in everything I do.  Ever since my father took me on my first backpacking trip when I was five years old, I’ve been hooked on challenging myself and savoring the physical and mental challenges that come with trying things I was not sure I could do.

I started running in middle school, but my primary sport was baseball.  I enjoyed the cross country practices and was finishing 2^nd or 3^rd on the team, but in my mind, I was a baseball player or a wrestler still who happened to run.  Despite not training over the summer going into my freshman year because I saw myself as a ball player or wrestler, I won my conference freshmen race by over a minute in 16:57 (5k) and placed 2^nd in the conference JV race.  I also battled for a Varsity spot on a team that was primarily made up of seniors.

I was hooked after that, not because of the success, but because of the similarity between running and hiking.  It was the challenge and struggle, the journey of pushing myself to reach my goal that got me hooked and has me ready to compete in college to find out just how good I can be.
