My name is Joshua Sea and I am a 5’8” 140-pound cross country/track athlete. As a freshman, I was one of the top distance runners for Atlantic Coast High School. Throughout, middle school years I only participate in track and field. During that time, I mastered the 800 meters event. So, at the beginning of my freshman year, I decided to conquer my fear by trying out for the cross-country team. At first, I question myself, why would I choose to participate in a tough running event through trails that consist of mud and hot weather. However, after a couple of weeks, I fell in love with the pain of the sport and the challenges of the training. I also made new friends with an amazing team and coaching staff. Normally, I always hated the outdoor because of the bugs but after conquering my fears of the outdoor elements, I became one with nature.
Many people would argue that cross country is not a team sport. But I beg the difference because we train together, sweat together, and laugh together. Throughout the season we became one and accomplished so many personal goals that we did not know we could. Moreover, even though my track season was cut short due to COVID-19, I was on pace in shattering personal goals in the 800 meters and putting my name out there for one of the top freshmen in the district and regionals. I am grateful to experienced synergy over the first year of high school. I finished the year out of academics with A/B honors roll.
The biggest influence in my life would be the hard work my moms and dad put in making sure I was taken care of and avoid all the negative issues in the ever-changing world. When my dad was on active duty in the military and not around, he always made sure I did not want for anything. My moms always encourage me to be me and never be a follower. She stressed to set and achieve reasonable goals and that each step taken will get you closer to your goals.
