My name is Tyler Williams and I am a hurdler/sprinter from Walton High School specializing in the 300M hurdles. After suffering from a collarbone fracture at the beginning of the season, I have truly begun to understand how much the sport of track means to me and would like to continue pursuing the sport in college while attending an academically rigorous school. I have recently qualified for State Sectionals in Georgia and am aiming to run a sub 40 second 300M hurdle time at this meet.
It has become extremely apparent to me that I do not want my track and field career to end at the high school level. I still desire a higher level of competition and am willing to put in whatever work it takes to get onto that level. During the 2020-2021 season, I injured my collarbone via fracture at two points and missed approximately 3 and a half weeks. Before this, I had been contact traced for 10 days meaning that I missed well over a month of the season. While my fitness was fairly low after I returned, I was able to train my way back to form in around a month and have been steadily dropping time on my events. My ultimate goal this season is to run a low 39 on the 300 hurdles and potentially split a sub 50 second on the 4 x 400m relay.
I am also a dedicated student outside of normal school work. During my sophomore year, I held a board member position in two clubs (habitat for humanity and launchX) while getting over 80 service hours in the year. After COVID-19 had hit, I took a step away from these club positions to pursue different things that I was passionate about and found interesting. My friends and I competed in the Inventure prize competition where we reached the Regional stage before getting eliminated. Still not feeling satisfied, I chose to participate in another competition, the Wharton Global Youth Investment competition, that would even further test my skills and ability with a group of my friends. As the leader of said group, we were able to reach the global final level where we had to first write a 10-page paper to reach the regional level, then film a 10-minute video (watch the video here: https://youtu.be/4fPNLXTL_AQ) explaining our strategy. We were able to beat out over 950 teams to reach the top 50 groups and then beat the other 9 east coast teams to make it to the global final. Whatever college I attend, I strive to bring the same level of excellence with me while staying dedicated to my track goals.
