Running and farming have had major impacts on my choices throughout life and have influenced my decision on what I want to do at the college level. My first long distance running experience was in fifth grade when I won our class mile and my interest continued as I watched my cousin compete at the collegiate level and then continue doing something she loves by running marathons. Through high school my coach, Tim Thompson, has pushed me and set goals for me to achieve even when I thought I had become the best that I could be. He has shown me that I can always improve, I just have to have the mindset that I can get better.
In high school, it is my goal to stay within the top 10 students academically while maintaining high involvement in many clubs and organizations. Time management has always been an important factor for me as I balance between running, schoolwork, club offices and family farm chores . Many times I have had to do my cross country workouts at ten o'clock at night because I was attending an FFA or student council conference. On both my track and cross country teams I am a younger member but still try to display qualities of a leader on the team. Distance running is not looked at as a "easy" sport at our school, but I strive to recruit more members to participate each year and help build our program.
