I had noticed early on in my childhood that I was fast when I would be the first one down the court in Boys and Girls club basketball. This translated into football as well later on, always being the fastest among my teammates. I knew I wanted to do track when the first year I could. 7th grade was that year, and I had attempted the hurdles with no prior experience. I excelled in it almost immediately, going to state for the 110 my first year placing 18th. I had high expectations my 8th grade year but was cut short unfortunately due to Covid. Freshman year was my first year back and had competed in sectionals for the 300M hurdles. Missing state by 1 place, placing 3rd. Sophomore year I had qualified for the 300M hurdles and would have placed top 8 but had tripped on the last hurdle and placed 18th. And as of now am hoping to go further than I had last year. This year I competed in indoor state for the first time in my career in the 60M hurdles, placing 14th, and am now on pace to qualify for the 300M hurdles again and the 110M hurdles, which would be the first time for me in high school. I acknowledge how important academics is in this process too. I have maintained a 3.3 GPA or higher on a 4 scale in high school. I can say I have applied myself more than I have in the past going into my jr. year, and, while I can always do better, I have surprised myself a few times this year in the class room. Despite any hurdles I've overcome throughout my career, easy or challenging, I will always find myself studying or on the track the next day. I have too much love for track and feel I have come very far since Jr. High to not find a way over a literal or figurative hurdle. I can only encourage others to do the same. Behind this all I have a loving family supporting and pushing me at all times. As well as support from coaches, teammates, and friends I've made while in track. Could not be more thankful for them all.
