I believe that hard work pays off. In this past track season, I was very disappointed in myself. My training was very weak and my times showed that. My mileage was less than 15 per week and was not able to perform at the level that I would have liked to perform at. I was still able to run a 4:39 mile, 2:02 800, and 10:20 3200 on less than 15 miles per week. Now that the season has ended and cross country training has started I have learned from my mistakes and started racking up the miles. In my first year of real cross country training, I have already improved my 5k time down to 16:09 from 18:15 in previous years. My hard work, dedication, and leadership set me apart from others as I not only want to see myself succeed but believe that my teammate's improvement is more important. My hard work isn't only in the sport as I strive for academic excellence. With a 4.0 GPA and top 100 in my class of over 500, I always value my academics. I scored a 26 on the ACT on my first time taking it, I think academics greatly helps improve a person as a runner. I feel like my team-oriented mindset will put me in the position to improve any team my first year.
