Over the past few years, there has been a lot of talent that has gone through my school, and I was fortunate enough to compete with some of those kids. However, it was frustrating when we kept losing games and our seasons were ending early. With the talent we had everyone expected us to go far, but it never happened. This has continued for the past few years, and it has been teaching me over and over again that it takes more than just skill to be successful. It taught me the importance of working hard, team work, and perseverance.
I have learned many life lessons competing in sports, most of which came from track and field. I can't think of any other sport which requires athletes to trust and rely of themselves more than their team. That's what I love about the sport, it can be just as much of a team sport as any other, but it can also be very independent. Athletes are forced to work harder because there's no teammates to pick up the slack, and there's no better feeling than when I get to leave at the end of the day knowing I gave it my all.
As a student athlete I always put school first, but because I have a good work ethic I've been able to get straight A's and have plenty of time for sports. In college I plan to do the same thing. Sports continue to be a huge part of my life, and with my drive and determination, I believe I'm capable of competing at the next level.
