My goal, when looking toward my future in college athletics, is to continue the positive experiences I have had in my track seasons at Winslow High School. I wish to be part of a team where its' members are going to push each other to continually improve. When looking at what makes me stand out from others, I believe my competitiveness within the team atmosphere has helped me to become a better athlete. I strive to excel at what I do and am continually pushing myself toward that goal. When it comes to academics, I look to challenge myself by actively choosing classes that will not just interest me, but will also push me to work hard to be successful in them.
To get to where I am currently at in my track career, I had to work extra hard because I started later than most of my peers. I only began to run track in the spring of my 8th grade year. Upon joining the team, I knew that this was the sport for me. Early in the season, I decided to try hurdles as I wanted to experience more events that the sport had to offer. Unfortunately, during my first time running the 110-meter hurdles in a home meet, I managed to injure myself badly and nearly lost my spleen. It was a life threating injury. I spent several days in the hospital and weeks afterwards recovering. I worked hard to get back to normal by pushing each day to improve and get stronger. As a result of that experience, I feel that I have matured a lot as a person and, more than anything, it has reinforced my determination to improve at this sport, by always pushing myself a little bit harder and farther.
