My name is Will Fritz. I started running as a Freshman as a way to get into shape for soccer. I discovered that I enjoyed the satisfaction of personal achievement combined with the camaraderie of my teammates. At the end of my sophomore year, my track coaches told me I had talent and that if I trained, I could make significant improvements. We created a training plan and I worked nearly every day the summer before my Junior year. During the fall of my Junior year, I trained every day with the cross country team immediately after school and then I practiced varsity soccer as soon as cross country practice was over. The hard work paid off. Our team won our school's first ever state championship during the DC/MD Private School Championship and I placed second for small schools. That taste of victory really motivated me. I trained all winter in preparation for the Spring 2016 Track Season. This Spring was my best ever. Winning was fun but what I enjoyed the most was being an example for younger runners. Living in a small town, us distance runners often train together. At some meets, knowing I would run as many as 4 events, I would help a friend get a P.R. by pacing them until the last lap when I would take-off to win the race. Seeing the excitement in my friend's face when they achieved their goal felt as good as any win. That camaraderie is why I run and why I want to continue to run in college. Running is part of my character and defines part of who I am. In college, I will continue to run so I can enjoy the friendships and hopefully continue to motivate younger runners so they can have the same positive experiences. I would like to pursue a career in a Biology, Chemistry or BioChem field. I love science. I want to study Biology or Chemistry in College. I don't have a specialty in mind but expect that as I experience and learn more I will find a path in science that I will enjoy. Thank you for taking the time to read my personal statement. I hope it helps you understand more about who I am. -- William L. Fritz
