My name is Chris Hendricks. I am from Edgewater Maryland, and currently a 4.0 GPA student at South River High School. I love running, skiing and playing soccer. My greatest achievements to date include: coming in 1st place (for age group) in 2017 Sonoma Valley Wine Country 1/2 marathon, 1st place (for age group) in the 2016 Virginia Wine Country 1/2 marathon; and 2nd place (for age group) in the 2016 Philadelphia Rock 'n' Roll 1/2 marathon.
I have been a fan of running since early elementary when I competed in my first 5k run and came first in my age group. Ever since then I absolutely loved running and I know I always will. In Middle school 7th grade I ran the mile in gym finishing in 5:25 and I knew then that competing in running was what I wanted to do.
Freshmen year I joined indoor and outdoor track where the coaches had me start in sprinting events. I ran 24seconds in the 200m and 12.1 seconds in 100m. I then became the 1st male freshman in SRHS to make Varsity and letter! After freshmen year I wanted to improve my endurance, so I trained over the summer and joined cross country my sophomore year. After training my Sophomore year, my personal best was 19.19minutes but I knew I could do much better. Sophomore Indoor and outdoor track I did sprinting with the coaches now adding relays to my events.
Before Junior year began I was so enthusiastic for running that I ran the Virginia Wine Country half marathon where I came in 12th overall and 1st place for my age group with a time of 1:28. After coming in 1st place in the Virginia race, I still knew I needed to improve, and knew that I could do better. I have a strong need to always want to improve and Excel in all that I do including my activities in school, church and community service such as feeding the poor at local shelters.
Later that summer I ran the Philadelphia Rock 'n' roll 1/2 marathon where I improved by finishing time with 1:21 and placed 2nd in my age group.
Currently in my Junior year, I am training as both a sprinter and long distance runner. In indoor track my personal best in the 500m is a 71 seconds, and in the 300m my best is 39 seconds. I am also competing in the 3200 meter with a personal best of 10min 45seconds.
Learning from my years of training I strive to become a better runner in all my races ranging from the 800m, half marathons and relay races. I hope to achieve school records in multiple events; but very importantly I am a team player and want my school and team to excel and perform at our very best. I motivate my teammates in every way that I can because my team is so important to me. I know that if I always do my best in practice that my teammates will as well. We all must win together!
In the future, I very much want to compete at the college level. When given the chance I will excel being the best I can be each and every day. I will contribute to your school, earn great grades and make the track and running teams successful. I hope you do consider me to be apart of your college and or university as I know I will make you proud.
Sincerely,
Christian Hendricks
