I am a scholar-athlete who competes in the high jump. I am a student of the event, and have committed myself to learning and mastering its biomechanical, physiological and psychological aspects. I have been jumping since 6th grade and have worked hard to improve each year: 6th grade (4'6"), 7th grade (5'1"), 8th grade (5'8"), 9th grade (6'0"), 10th grade (6'4.5"), and 11th grade (6'8.25"). I am excited to continue improving during my senior year in high school and throughout my college career. My family is a track and field family: my mom was a two-time XC All-American; my dad was a Rhodes Scholar and 4:17 miler; my sister runs varsity XC and track for MIT; and one of my cousins was a 6'7" collegiate high jumper. I would like to carry on the family tradition, and compete at the collegiate level, contributing to a track and field program at a top college or university. Academically, I plan to study biology and physics, and engage in undergraduate research. The past two summers, I have had the opportunity to conduct biotechnology research at the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard.
My mom Mary is a primary care physician at the Massachusetts General Hospital and an Associate Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School. My dad Jim is the Termeer Professor of Medical Engineering & Science at MIT and a Core Founding Faculty member of the Wyss Institute at Harvard University. My sister Katie is a sophomore at MIT - she competes for the MIT Women's Varsity XC and Indoor/Outdoor Track teams, and is majoring in Brain & Cognitive Science and minoring in Computer Science.
