I’ve played sports since I was very young, but when I hurt my shoulder playing hockey at 15, I had to take a break from contact sports to let it heal. During this time, I started running to stay in shape. I ran my school’s annual 5K during homecoming and did well without any training. This race peaked my interest in running and I joined the high school cross country and track teams the next seasons.
I am hoping to continue to run distance events in college. I know the collegiate level will push me harder than I ever have been pushed before, but I believe running against people who are better than me will help me get better.
I am running year-round to improve my stamina and pacing. I have a strong kick at the end of a race, and am very coachable. I am also supportive of my team and set goals for myself while challenging those around me.
In the classroom, I work hard and receive good grades. I have made either honors or high honors every semester and have also received two academic achievement awards. Outside of the classroom, I try to give back to my community. I volunteer weekly at the Special Olympics basketball league as a mentor to the athletes.
I want to go to a college where I can be challenged in the classroom and on the track. I am willing to work hard and dedicate myself to being the best student and athlete I can be. I hope to make a positive impact on your team and to leave my mark.
