I want to be able to continue to enjoy and love my running, while still pursuing my academic career. I want to balance my schooling and academics so I can be largely successful in both. I realize I can't always be the best, but will put forth the effort to become at least the best that I can be.
I train better with a team as I feel I am responsible for their training as well as my own, and the harder someone works, the harder we will work together. I also have a tendency to not quit until I'm finished. Once I commit to something, I know that as much as 95% of the time, quitting means letting someone down who trusts in me.
One of the hardest obstacle for me was when I fractured my fibula nearing the end of my 8th grade track season. I had already run a 4:57 and was on pace to run around 4:50, which would also break the school record, at the next competitive meet. However, I was injured 1 week prior to the goal of the season. Not only did this stop my running, but I was also involved in soccer and couldn't help my team anymore that season. I continued to go to all of the meets and games, but I couldn't stand not playing. Because of this lust, when I came back, I came back too fast, and prolonged my recovery. During this time I learned a lot about commitment and support, and realized what a privilege it was too be able to compete and succeed at the level I had. I also learned to take the opportunities you have seriously, because you never know when you won't get another chance.
